Welcome! I’m Jessica, a writer, photographer, and English teacher living in Colorado. I created this site as a home for my photos and to explore writing that digs down, soul-deep. I create art that adds beauty to your life and brings the past, present, and future together with compassion and hope. The world could use more of that, don’t you think?
Did you create your own language as a child? I did. Did it seem odd to you that no one else wanted to learn it? Why should you have to learn their language and not the other way around?
Well, clearly we both managed to do so. However, I often feel that I am still speaking a language that no one else comprehends. This language has less to do with the words chosen than the shifting waves of feeling that I try to fit into words, like ladling the ocean with a teacup.
When words are simply inadequate, I turn to photography. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. For me, a photo holds feeling, memory, life in a way that words often cannot. Recently, life has gifted me a new opportunity along this journey of expansion—that of teaching English as a foreign language. This is both an honor and a learning experience for me, as I meet new students every day, from all around the globe, to talk about our lives and our hopes. Lastly, I think the greatest gift I have experienced in my life is travel. It is an extraordinary opportunity to experience cultures other than my own and to view different horizons. I never want to take that privilege for granted.
In my journey through this tumultuous world with Asperger’s (or ASD) as my companion, I have learned to use both words and images as creative expression, as healing, as a roadmap of sorts to help me on my way. I know that you have made journeys of your own, and I am so glad that your wandering has led you here. I hope you find both comfort and inspiration, and that we can discover new inner and outer landscapes together.
If you have any comments, concerns, questions, or suggestions about how to make this site better, I would love to hear from you!
