About Me

Welcome!  I’m Jessica, a writer, photographer, English teacher, and student of nature living in Colorado.  I created this site as a home for my photos and to explore writing that digs down, soul-deep.  I create art that adds beauty to your life and brings the past, present, and future together with compassion and hope.  The world could use more of that, don’t you think?

“The environment” is an often-used catchphrase. But oddly enough, very few people actually talk about the environment, and even fewer bother with taking action. I know all too well how paralyzing the news can be, especially about issues that have long-term or global impact. I have felt helpless in the face of so many problems that all seemed far too big for me to do anything about.

However, in the course of my undergraduate studies in environmental studies at Naropa University, I began to see how critical these issues are, as well as how many potential solutions exist and are being created. I may not be able to personally solve climate change or world hunger, but I can participate with the many brilliant people all over the world who are working to do so. This website is one of the tools I hope to use.

I have always loved to write, and through writing I’ve found that words are funny things. They are meant to convey meaning, but sometimes the meaning is simply too large for the container. This is when I turn to photography. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. For me, a photo holds feeling, memory, life in a way that words often cannot. Other opportunities along this journey of expansion have included teaching English as a foreign language, and the extraordinary gift of international travel. The privilege of seeing the world through these lenses makes me want all the more to protect our collective natural and cultural heritage.

In my journey through this tumultuous world with Asperger’s (or ASD) as my companion, I have learned to use both words and images as creative expression, as healing, as a roadmap of sorts to help me on my way.   I know that you have made journeys of your own, and I am so glad that your wandering has led you here. I hope you find both comfort and inspiration, and that we can discover new inner and outer landscapes together. I believe that new solutions and a brighter future are within our grasp, and I’m grateful to be part of this journey of learning better ways to live on this earth.

If you have any comments, concerns, questions, or suggestions about how to make this site better, I would love to hear from you!
